Mirador del Vinyet
Most visitors never leave the beachfront, which means the hillside Mirador del Vinyet — a quiet terrace beside the Sanctuary of La Mare de Déu del Vinyet — is almost always deserted, even in August. The reward is a sweeping view over Sitges' terracotta rooftops, the entire bay and, on clear days, the Montserrat massif floating above the horizon.
Getting There
The mirador sits about 2 km west of the old town, reachable on foot in 30 minutes via Carrer de les Parellades and then uphill along Avinguda del Vinyet. Cyclists can lock up at the sanctuary gate. There is limited car parking on the access road if you'd rather drive.
The route passes through the residential Vinyet neighbourhood, where bougainvillea spills over garden walls and the crowds thin almost immediately — a pleasant contrast to the packed Passeig Marítim below.
The View and the Sanctuary
The 17th-century sanctuary itself is a working pilgrimage church and one of the most venerated Marian shrines in the Garraf region. The small chapel is usually open; step inside to see the gilded camarin housing the image of La Mare de Déu del Vinyet, patron of Sitges.
Outside, the terrace has stone benches and a couple of old olive trees providing shade. Bring a cold drink — there are no vendors up here — and stay long enough to watch the light shift over the bay. Sunset from this spot is genuinely spectacular.
