El Cable — Xiringuito & Restaurant
Sitges has no shortage of seafood restaurants, but El Cable, a long-established xiringuito (beach shack-restaurant) at the far end of Platja de la Ribera, consistently delivers the combination that matters most: genuinely fresh fish, a table with sand underfoot and an ice-cold Estrella Damm arriving before you've finished reading the menu.
What to Order
The suquet de peix — a saffron-scented Catalan fisherman's stew built around whatever came off the boats that morning — is the dish to order if it's on the daily chalkboard. Otherwise, go for the grilled lubina (sea bass) with alioli and a side of escalivada, the smoky roasted aubergine and pepper salad that is pure Catalan summer on a plate.
Portions are generous and prices are honest for a beachfront spot: expect to pay around €18–24 for a main. The house white is a young Penedès white — crisp, mineral and exactly right with anything from the sea.
Timing and Atmosphere
Lunch (2–4 pm) is the prime sitting, when the terrace fills with a mix of local families and in-the-know visitors. The kitchen takes its time — this is not a place for a quick bite — so settle in, order a plate of boquerones to start and let the afternoon drift.
Booking is strongly recommended in July and August. In shoulder season (May, June, September) you can often walk in at 1 pm and find a table with no trouble. The restaurant is closed on Monday throughout the year.
