Mirador del Castillo de Sigüenza
Perched on the highest point of the old city, the 12th-century castle of Sigüenza — today operating as a Parador hotel — commands a sweeping panorama over terracotta rooftops, the cathedral towers and the rolling Castilian plateau beyond. You do not need to be a guest to enjoy the view.
The Viewpoint Terrace
Walk up Calle del Castillo from the cathedral and you will reach the castle's outer walls, where an informal mirador opens up across the Henares river valley. On clear winter days the snow-dusted peaks of the Sistema Ibérico float on the horizon.
Sunset is the undisputed prime time: the warm stone of the cathedral turns amber, swallows wheel around the towers, and the entire medieval skyline looks as though it has been lit by a painter's lamp.
The Parador Interior
Even if you are not staying overnight, the Parador de Sigüenza welcomes visitors to its café and public rooms, which are filled with suits of armour, tapestries and carved stone fireplaces. Order a coffee in the vaulted bar and soak up nine centuries of history at €2.50 a cup.
The inner courtyard — a Renaissance patio with arched galleries — is one of the most photogenic spots in the province and is almost always uncrowded in the early morning.
Getting There on Foot
The uphill walk from Plaza Mayor takes about 12 minutes along well-signposted cobbled lanes. Wear comfortable shoes; the final stretch is steep but rewarded immediately by the views.
There is no dedicated car park at the castle gate, so arriving on foot or by taxi from the town centre is the practical choice.
