Bar Costa, Sant Agnès de Corona
A 15-minute drive inland from Sant Antoni through almond groves brings you to the tiny hamlet of Sant Agnès de Corona and its legendary Bar Costa — a time-warp village bar that has been serving the same perfect bocadillo of sobrasada and cheese since the 1960s. It is the kind of place that reminds you why you travel.
The Food and the Atmosphere
The menu is defiantly short: the bocadillo (crusty bread, local sobrasada, melted cheese) is the star, accompanied by a cold Estrella Damm or a glass of hierbas ibicencas, the island's anise-herb liqueur. Simplicity executed to perfection.
The interior is crammed with vintage bullfighting posters, old photographs and the kind of patina that cannot be faked — regulars nurse drinks at the zinc bar while dogs doze on the stone floor outside.
When to Visit
The most magical time to make this pilgrimage is late January to mid-February when the surrounding fields erupt in white almond blossom — the drive through the valley is one of the most beautiful things you can do on the island, and Bar Costa fills with locals celebrating the fleeting season.
At any time of year the bar opens early and closes when it feels like it, so a late-morning visit works best; combine it with a walk around the whitewashed church of Sant Agnès and the silent lanes of the hamlet.
