Mercato Settimanale di Rovigo (Wednesday & Saturday Market)
Twice a week, the streets and piazzas of central Rovigo fill with stalls selling everything from fresh radicchio and aged Grana Padano to handmade leather belts and linen tablecloths. This is where locals actually shop, and the sensory overload is glorious.
What You'll Find Among the Stalls
The food section is the undisputed highlight. Vendors from the surrounding Po Delta countryside bring seasonal vegetables, freshwater fish from the delta's lagoons, cured meats from local norcinerie, and wheels of Grana Padano at prices that will make you wish you'd packed a bigger suitcase.
Look out for radicchio di Chioggia, the round burgundy chicory grown just east of Rovigo, sold in tight heads still dusted with field soil. Alongside it you'll find bottles of local Bosco Eliceo DOC wine and jars of honey from delta beekeepers.
Beyond Food: Fabric, Fashion and Finds
The non-food section stretches along Via Cavour and into Piazza Garibaldi and offers a classic Italian mix of cheap fashion, household goods, and the occasional vintage find. Seasoned market-goers arrive early to sift through fabric bolts and ceramic kitchenware.
Saturday is the larger of the two market days and draws vendors from across the Polesine province. Wednesday is quieter and more neighbourhood in feel — ideal if you prefer relaxed browsing over crowds.
Either day, finish at the covered permanent market building near Piazza Garibaldi for a plate of cicchetti and a small glass of Prosecco at one of the counter bars inside.
