Parco degli Olivetani & the Riccione Canale Portuale
Tucked between the southern end of the beach and the fishing-boat canal, the Parco degli Olivetani is Riccione's most underused green space — a shaded public park planted with Mediterranean pines, olive trees and rosemary hedges that fills with joggers and dog-walkers while the beach 200 metres away is packed solid. It is also the best place in town to watch the small fishing fleet come and go.
The Park and Its Wildlife
The park's mature Aleppo pines create a dense canopy that drops temperatures noticeably compared to the open promenade — bring a book and a blanket and you have a free, shaded retreat from the midday heat. Bee-eaters and hoopoes pass through on spring migration (April–May), making this a surprisingly rewarding spot for birdwatchers.
A small children's play area and outdoor fitness equipment make the park a practical stop for families who need a break from sand. The rosemary and lavender borders attract enormous numbers of bumblebees in early summer.
The Canale Portuale and the Fishing Boats
The canal that separates Riccione from Misano Adriatico to the south is home to a working fleet of small Adriatic fishing boats — the classic blue-and-white bragozzo and paranza designs that have worked these waters for generations. Early morning (5–7 am) is when the boats return with the night's catch, and watching the unloading is a vivid, photogenic contrast to the beach-club world a short walk north.
A small fish market sometimes operates informally on the canal quay on weekday mornings — ask at the boats directly and you may be able to buy ultra-fresh Adriatic clams (vongole), sole and sardines at wholesale prices.
