Mercato Ambulante di Riccione (Wednesday & Saturday Market)
Twice a week, the streets around Viale Lazio and Viale Toscana fill with one of the Riviera's most animated outdoor markets — a sprawling mix of fresh Romagna produce, handmade ceramics, leather goods and the kind of cheap-but-stylish beachwear that Italians actually buy. It is the most honest slice of everyday Riccione you will find.
Food and Produce Stalls
Arrive before 9 am to catch the best of the fruit and vegetable section, where farmers from the Po Valley plain sell flat peaches, Romagna cherries (in June), and bundles of piadina flatbread ingredients. A handful of stalls specialise in local cheeses — look for squacquerone, the soft spreadable cheese that is the canonical topping for piadina.
Cured-meat vendors slice mortadella and prosciutto di Parma to order; buying a wedge of Parmigiano-Reggiano direct from a market vendor is considerably cheaper than any supermarket and the quality is noticeably better.
Fashion, Crafts and Bargains
The clothing section is vast and unapologetically exuberant — think broderie-anglaise cover-ups, linen trousers and enormous sun hats at prices that undercut any boutique on Viale Ceccarini. Italians shop here seriously, so follow their lead and check seams before you buy.
A smaller craft section towards the inland end of the market sells hand-painted ceramics from Faenza (just 50 km away), woven baskets and occasionally antique postcards of old Riccione that make excellent, lightweight souvenirs.
