Mirador de La Paz
Perched on the hillside road between Puerto de la Cruz and La Orotava, Mirador de La Paz delivers one of the most iconic panoramas in the Canary Islands — a sweeping view across the banana plantations of the Orotava Valley, the terracotta rooftops of Puerto de la Cruz and, on clear days, the perfect white cone of Mount Teide floating above the clouds.
The view and when to see it
The viewpoint sits at around 420 metres elevation on the TF-21 road, and the perspective takes in the full width of the valley — a patchwork of vivid green banana groves, white-painted farms and the dark Atlantic beyond. Teide (3,715 m) dominates the skyline to the south when cloud cover permits, which is most reliably in the early morning before the trade-wind clouds build.
A small café-bar at the mirador serves coffee and fresh zumo de naranja (orange juice) and has been a fixture for decades. The terrace is equipped with coin-operated telescopes, but frankly the naked-eye view is dramatic enough.
Getting there
From Puerto de la Cruz, follow signs toward La Orotava on the TF-21 — the mirador is clearly signed on the right-hand side after about 4 km of uphill driving. By bus, TITSA line 345 from Puerto de la Cruz passes close to the viewpoint en route to La Orotava.
Combine the stop with a visit to the historic town of La Orotava just 3 km further up the road — one of the most beautiful colonial towns in the entire Canary Islands, with extraordinary 18th-century mansions and the famous Casa de los Balcones.
