Playa del Duque
Playa del Duque is the most glamorous stretch of sand on the Tenerife south coast — a wide, sheltered crescent of golden-brown sand backed by pastel-coloured luxury hotels and swaying palms. The water is calm, clear and an almost implausible shade of turquoise, making it equally perfect for a lazy float or an Instagram-worthy sunrise walk.
The beach itself
Stretching roughly 700 metres along the Costa Adeje shoreline, Playa del Duque is kept immaculately clean and offers a full suite of amenities: sunbed and parasol rentals, lifeguards, accessible ramps and well-maintained shower stations.
The sea here is protected by a natural rocky headland to the north, which keeps the swell gentle even on windier days — a big plus compared to the more exposed beaches further south in Las Américas.
Beyond the sand
The broad promenade behind the beach is lined with upscale café terraces and boutiques; grab a fresh-squeezed papaya juice at one of the kiosks and stroll south toward the fishing village of La Caleta for a quieter perspective.
Early morning — before 9 am — is the magic hour: the low Atlantic light turns the sand amber, the crowds haven't arrived, and local fishermen are still pulling in their nets at the nearby rocky shore.
Getting there
From the centre of Playa de las Américas, bus line 416 (TITSA) runs regularly to Costa Adeje and stops a short walk from the beach. Taxis from Las Américas take around ten minutes and cost roughly €8-10.
Paid parking is available at the Duque commercial centre nearby if you are driving, though spaces fill quickly between 10 am and 1 pm in high season.
