Mirador del Teide desde Boca Tauce

Standing at the Boca Tauce viewpoint on the western rim of Las Cañadas del Teide, you look straight down a vast lava corridor toward the Atlantic with Mount Teide's 3,715-metre cone dominating the sky behind you. It is one of the most cinematically dramatic panoramas in all of Spain — and it takes less than an hour to reach from Playa de las Américas.

The view and the landscape

Boca Tauce sits at around 2,050 metres altitude on the TF-38 road, at the point where the caldera wall opens up and reveals a sweeping lava plain called the Llano de Ucanca stretching below. On clear mornings the shadow of Teide itself falls across the plain in a perfect geometric triangle.

The surrounding terrain is a moonscape of dark basalt and rust-red pumice that turns extraordinary shades of ochre and violet at golden hour. Photographers routinely rate this among the top ten landscape spots in the Canary Islands.

Planning your visit

The drive from Playa de las Américas via the TF-28 and TF-21 takes approximately 50 minutes. Go early — ideally arriving before 8 am — to beat the tour buses and catch the cloud inversion that often sits below the rim, turning the valleys into a white sea.

There is a small car park directly at the viewpoint. From here you can also begin the signposted walking trail (Sendero 28) that descends through the lava fields toward Chio, though you will need a second car or a taxi waiting at the bottom.

Combining with Teide National Park

Pair Boca Tauce with a stop at the Parador de las Cañadas del Teide further into the park for a mid-morning coffee with views of the Roques de García rock formations — one of Tenerife's most photographed landmarks.

If you want to ascend to Teide's summit crater, book the free permit well in advance at the official MAPA reservation portal; the cable car (teleférico) runs from a separate station on the TF-21 and costs around €27 return.
