Sandri Pasticceria

Via Vannucci's most beautiful interior belongs not to a palace but to a pasticceria. Sandri has been operating since 1860 and its carved wooden cabinets, frescoed ceiling and marble counter make it the most civilised place in Perugia to eat a cornetto and drink a proper coffee.

What to Order

The house speciality is the torciglione, a marzipan snake-shaped cake traditional to Umbrian Christmas — but Sandri sells a small version year-round. The pastiera, cantucci and chocolate-dipped orange peel are equally non-negotiable.

At aperitivo hour (18:00–20:00) the marble counter fills with savoury bites — bruschette, mini tramezzini, olive ascolane — included with a Spritz or Sagrantino-based cocktail for around €6. It is the most elegant happy hour in the city.

The Room Itself

The 19th-century interior was designed to impress and still does: gilded mirrors, dark walnut shelving stacked with panettone boxes and liqueur bottles, a ceiling painted with pastoral scenes. Sit at the counter rather than a table to watch the baristas work.

Sandri is beloved by Perugians and gets busy on weekend mornings. Weekday mid-morning (10:00–11:30) is the sweet spot — quieter, and the pastry trays are fully stocked.
