Réserve Naturelle des Sept-Îles
Just eight kilometres off the coast of Perros-Guirec, the Sept-Îles archipelago is France's largest Atlantic seabird colony and one of Brittany's most extraordinary wildlife encounters. Boat trips circle islands packed with Atlantic puffins, northern gannets, razorbills and grey seals.
The Wildlife
The island of Rouzic alone hosts the only mainland-France gannet colony — around 22,000 pairs nest on its sheer cliffs in a cacophony of white wings and yellow heads. Boat trips pass close enough to see individual birds without disturbing the colony; landings are restricted to protect the reserve.
Puffins nest on Île aux Moines, the only island where limited visitor landings are permitted in summer. Watching these compact, clown-faced birds waddle to their burrow entrances is the kind of moment that makes a holiday.
Planning Your Trip
Vedettes de Perros-Guirec run regular departures from the port of Perros-Guirec between April and September. The standard loop cruise lasts about an hour and a half; the longer option includes a landing on Île aux Moines.
Bring binoculars and a zoom lens — the boat operators respect wildlife distances. Sea conditions can be choppy even in summer, so motion-sickness tablets are worth packing if you're sensitive.
