Crêperie de la Clarté, La Clarté
Tucked into the village of La Clarté, a few kilometres inland from Perros-Guirec, this well-loved crêperie serves honest, generous Breton galettes in a granite-walled dining room that feels unchanged since the 1970s — in the best possible way. It's the kind of place locals steer you toward only when they trust you.
What to Order
The galette complète — buckwheat crêpe filled with ham, a fried egg and melted Emmental — is the benchmark by which all others are judged, and here it is executed with quiet confidence. The batter is made from locally sourced buckwheat flour and the edges crisp to a satisfying lacework fringe.
Follow it with a sweet crêpe drizzled with salted-butter caramel and a bowl of cold Breton cider; the combination is simple, regional and completely addictive. Portions are generous enough that two crêpes per person is a full meal.
The Village and Surroundings
La Clarté is named for its beautiful pink-granite chapel, Notre-Dame de la Clarté, which sits on a hilltop above the village and is worth the short detour before or after lunch. The chapel's interior is decorated with ex-votos — painted wooden panels left by sailors saved from shipwreck — giving it an intimate, moving quality.
The nearby Allée Couverte de Kerguntuil, a Neolithic dolmen hidden in a farm field just outside the village, adds an unexpected prehistoric dimension to an afternoon in this quiet corner of the Trégor.
