Musée d'Art Classique de Mougins (MACM)
The Musée d'Art Classique de Mougins is one of the Riviera's best-kept secrets — a four-storey private collection that places ancient Greek helmets, Egyptian bronzes and Roman busts in direct conversation with original Picassos, Hockneys and Warhols.
A Dialogue Across Millennia
Founded by British collector Christian Levett, MACM opened in 2011 inside a beautifully restored 16th-century building in the heart of the old village. The curatorial concept is genuinely original: a Cycladic figurine sits beside a Giacometti, a Roman gladiator mosaic faces a Jeff Koons sculpture, and the juxtaposition consistently sparks fresh thinking about how little human creativity has actually changed.
The Egyptian collection alone — featuring ushabtis, amulets and funerary masks spanning 3,000 years — would justify the entrance fee. Add a cabinet of ancient erotic art, a gallery of arms and armour, and a rooftop terrace with village views, and you have easily two hours of rewarding exploration.
