Mougins Weekly Market (Marché de Mougins)
Every Wednesday and Friday morning, the square near the Mougins Mairie transforms into a vivid Provençal market where local farmers, cheese-makers and flower growers jostle for space — the perfect place to stock a picnic basket or simply soak up the rhythms of real Riviera life.
What to Look For
Arrive before 9 am for first pick of the seasonal produce: plump Cavaillon melons in summer, fat white asparagus in spring, truffle-laced charcuterie in winter. The olive oil stalls offer tastings of single-estate oils pressed in the hills above Grasse, and the honey vendors will let you sample lavender, thyme and chestnut varieties side by side.
The cheese section is particularly strong, with aged Banon wrapped in chestnut leaves, creamy Brousse du Rove and hard Tomme de Provence all typically represented. Vendors are accustomed to tourists and will happily vacuum-pack purchases for travelling.
Beyond the Food Stalls
The non-food section of the market carries Provençal linens, hand-thrown pottery, lavender sachets and olive-wood kitchen utensils — useful, well-priced souvenirs that haven't been mass-produced for tourist shops. Prices are noticeably lower here than in Cannes or Saint-Paul-de-Vence.
After shopping, the café terraces around the square fill with locals nursing café crème and debating their purchases. Join them — it is one of the most effortlessly convivial scenes on the Riviera and costs nothing but the price of a coffee.
