Mercado Municipal de Abastos de Molina de Segura
Molina de Segura sits in one of Spain's most productive market-garden belts, and the town's covered Mercado de Abastos is where that abundance lands every morning. Stalls overflow with just-picked peppers, fat tomatoes, local peaches and the region's celebrated pimentón — this is the real pantry of Murcia.
What to Buy & Taste
The vegetable and fruit stalls are the undisputed stars: vendors sell varieties of tomato and lettuce bred specifically for the Segura valley that you simply will not find in a supermarket. Arrive before 9 am on a Saturday to see the market at full roar, when local chefs and home cooks shop side by side.
The butchery counters stock regional specialities including longaniza de Pascua (a lightly spiced Easter sausage eaten year-round here) and morcilla murciana enriched with pine nuts. A small fishmonger brings daily catches up from the Mar Menor coast, less than an hour's drive away.
Market Culture & Tips
Unlike tourist-facing markets, this is a working neighbourhood market where prices are written in chalk and conversation is the currency. A little Spanish goes a long way — vendors are proud of their produce and happy to explain provenance if you ask.
The market building itself dates from the mid-20th century and has a functional, no-frills charm. Grab a fresh-squeezed zumo de naranja from the juice bar near the entrance and take your time browsing before the stalls begin to pack up around 14:00.
