Marché de Meudon-sur-Seine
Every Saturday morning the quayside neighbourhood of Meudon-sur-Seine (also known as Bas-Meudon) comes alive with a traditional French open-air market along the Avenue du Maréchal Joffre. It is the kind of unhurried, genuinely local market where the cheese vendor knows your name by your third visit.
What to Buy
The produce stalls lean heavily on seasonal Île-de-France fruit and vegetables — white asparagus from the Sologne in spring, fat Charentais melons in July, crates of Reine Claude plums in August. A dedicated rôtisserie truck parks at the northern end and the smell of spit-roasted chicken perfumes the whole street by 10 a.m.
The cheese counter run by an affineur from the Chevreuse valley is a highlight: aged Brie de Meaux, fresh chèvre rolled in ash, and a washed-rind époisse that demands immediate consumption. Bring a cool bag.

After shopping, walk two minutes to the banks of the Seine where the Quai du 8 Mai 1945 offers a flat, tree-lined riverside promenade. Barges drift past, cyclists weave between families, and the water reflects the wooded Meudon hills behind you — it is a quietly perfect Saturday morning tableau.
Several café-brasseries along the Avenue du Maréchal Joffre open early for market-goers. Le Bord de Seine is a reliable local favourite for a croque-monsieur and a glass of Muscadet while you watch the stalls pack up around noon.
