Mirador del Cerro de la Cruz
Climb the scrubby hillside above Lodosa to the cross-topped summit and you are rewarded with one of the most panoramic views in the Ribera Navarra — a sweeping tableau of the Ebro river, patchwork market gardens and distant sierra silhouettes. Sunrise here is quietly spectacular.
The View That Earns Its Name
From the iron cross at the top you can trace the silver ribbon of the Ebro as it bends south toward Calahorra, with the vine-striped terraces of the Rioja Oriental filling the far bank. On clear winter mornings the Pyrenees appear as a faint white wall to the north.
The foreground is just as rewarding — Lodosa's terracotta rooftops, the tower of Santa María and the geometric green rows of the famous piquillo-pepper fields that have made the town's name in Spanish kitchens.
Getting Up There
A signed footpath leaves from the upper end of Calle del Calvario and reaches the summit in about 20 minutes on a well-worn trail. Wear trainers rather than flip-flops; the path is stony but never steep enough to require hiking poles.
The best light for photography falls in the hour after sunrise and the 45 minutes before sunset, when the Ebro catches gold and the pepper fields turn an almost luminous green.
