Punta di Lierna Promontory
A narrow rocky finger of land jutting into the centre of Lake Como, Punta di Lierna delivers a 270-degree panorama that professional photographers chase for years before discovering it. Stand here at golden hour and you'll have Bellagio's silhouette to the north, Varenna's coloured houses to the east, and open water stretching south — all at once.
Finding the Point
From the village centre, follow the lakeside footpath south past the small marina for roughly 600 metres until the path narrows onto the promontory itself — there are no signs, which is exactly why it stays quiet.
The tip is ringed by flat limestone slabs that slope gently into the water, making it a natural sunbathing terrace that locals use all summer while tourists queue for ferries in Varenna.
Best Light & Timing
Sunrise here is genuinely special: the Grigne mountain massif behind Varenna catches the first pink light while the lake surface is still mirror-flat and free of boat traffic.
Evening is equally rewarding — the western sky over the Lario turns amber and the lights of Bellagio begin to flicker on, giving you a natural transition from landscape to night photography without moving a step.
