Lungolago di Malgrate
Cross the bridge to the tiny comune of Malgrate on the western shore and you gain what locals consider the definitive view of Lecco — the city's red-roofed waterfront, San Nicolò's campanile and the Resegone all reflected in still water — without a single tour bus in sight.
The promenade walk
The Lungolago di Malgrate is a narrow lakeside path lined with plane trees and old fishing boathouses, stretching about 1.5 kilometres from the road bridge to the small public beach at the southern end. Cyclists, dog-walkers and elderly card-players at the lakeside benches give it an entirely un-touristy rhythm.
At the northern end, a small public garden with a jetty offers the classic straight-on view of Lecco that appears in every postcard — except here you have it almost to yourself, particularly before 09:00.
Café Malgrate and the view at dusk
A cluster of unpretentious bars along the promenade serve spritz and craft beer to a local crowd as the sun drops behind the western hills, painting the Lecco waterfront in shades of peach and terracotta.
The 20-minute walk back across the Ponte Azzone Visconti at dusk, with the lake turning silver below, is one of those unrepeatable travel moments that costs nothing and requires no planning.
