Marché de Langres — Place Ziegler
Every Wednesday and Saturday morning, Place Ziegler and the surrounding streets fill with around 60 stalls selling Langres AOC cheese straight from plateau farms, Haute-Marne charcuterie, seasonal vegetables and local honey. It is small enough to feel genuinely local, large enough to keep you browsing for a happy hour.
What to Buy
The undisputed star is Langres cheese itself — a washed-rind disc with a sunken crown traditionally filled with a splash of Champagne or Marc de Bourgogne before eating. Several market vendors are actual producers from the plateau, so you can taste before you buy and ask about affinage (ripening) time directly.
Look also for andouillette de Troyes from travelling charcutiers, pots of local acacia honey, and in autumn, wild mushrooms foraged from the Forêt de Cohons. The bread stall near the central fountain sells a dark sourdough miche that pairs perfectly with the cheese.
Market Atmosphere
The Saturday market is the bigger of the two, with a flower section spilling around the corner toward the cathedral square and a few antique and bric-a-brac sellers tucked in at the far end. Arrive before 9 am to see the stalls at their fullest and to chat with vendors before the mid-morning rush.
A mobile coffee van parks beside the old covered halles — grab an espresso and watch the town wake up. The whole scene wraps up by 12:30 pm sharp, so don't leave your shopping too late.
