Musée Eugène Boudin
Named after Honfleur's own pre-Impressionist master, this compact but richly stocked museum holds the largest public collection of Eugène Boudin's luminous beach and sky paintings anywhere in the world. It is the single best place to understand why this little port town changed the history of art.
What's Inside
The permanent collection spans Boudin's breezy Normandy beach scenes — parasols, crinolines, racing clouds — alongside works by Johan Barthold Jongkind, whose loose brushwork directly influenced the young Monet. A dedicated room shows how Boudin mentored Monet on these very beaches in the 1850s.
The museum also holds a strong collection of 20th-century Norman painters and a room of ethnographic artefacts relating to Honfleur's seafaring past, giving real cultural depth beyond the Impressionist headline.
