Honfleur Saturday Market
Every Saturday morning the Place Sainte-Catherine and the surrounding streets transform into one of the liveliest food markets in Calvados, overflowing with raw-milk Camembert, Livarot rounds, salted butter, cider, Calvados and fat Normandy strawberries. This is where locals actually shop, and the sensory overload is magnificent.
What to Buy
The cheese stalls are the centrepiece: look for affineur Michel Ledun's stall for aged Livarot and Pont-l'Évêque, and ask for a taste before you commit — vendors expect it and enjoy the conversation.
The fish and shellfish section near the church is outstanding: whole turbots, live crab, oysters from the Côte Fleurie shucked to order, and smoked herring that perfumes the whole square. Buy a bag of oysters and a wedge of brown bread for an impromptu breakfast on the harbour steps.
Navigating the Market
The market runs from roughly 8 am to 1 pm; arrive before 9:30 am to get the best produce and avoid the tour-group crush that descends around 10:30 am.
Parking is extremely tight on Saturday mornings; walk in from the Parking de la Porte de Rouen on the edge of town or arrive by the Verts bus line from Caen or Le Havre.
