Playa de Gandia
Stretching a full kilometre of fine, pale sand backed by a lively promenade, Playa de Gandia is the undisputed star of the Costa del Azahar — wide enough that it never feels claustrophobic even in August. The water is calm, shallow and that particular shade of turquoise that makes every photo look filtered.
The Beach Itself
The sand is compacted enough for easy walking yet soft enough for lounging, and the beach is cleaned mechanically every morning so it stays impressively pristine throughout summer. Lifeguard towers, accessible ramps and a dedicated quiet zone near the northern end make it genuinely family-friendly.
Pedal-boat and kayak rentals cluster around the central stretch, and a dedicated volleyball area draws competitive games from mid-morning. Arrive before 10 am in July and August to claim a front-row spot without the umbrella scramble.
The Paseo Marítimo
The seafront promenade running parallel to the beach is lined with palms, ice-cream kiosks and terraces serving cold horchata — the local tiger-nut drink that tastes like nothing else on a hot afternoon. It is flat, shaded in places and perfect for an early-evening paseo when locals reclaim the shore from the tourists.
Several chiringuitos (beach bars) stay open until midnight in summer, offering grilled sardines, cold Estrella Damm and the kind of unhurried service that reminds you why you came to Spain in the first place.
