Mirador del Tossal de la Caballería
A short drive or energetic 20-minute hike above Fraga leads to this rocky limestone hilltop, where a simple orientation table marks one of the most rewarding viewpoints in the Bajo Cinca. On a clear day you can trace the Cinca valley all the way north toward Monzón and spot the snowy caps of the Pyrenees.
Getting up there
The trail begins at the northern edge of town near the industrial estate on the N-211; follow the red-and-white waymarks uphill through scrubby rosemary and thyme garrigue. The path is rocky but straightforward and gains about 120 metres of elevation.
Alternatively, a dirt track accessible by car branches off the A-1234 just outside town and brings you within a five-minute walk of the summit — ideal if you are visiting with children or prefer a leisurely stroll to the top.
What you see from the top
To the north the Cinca meanders through a patchwork of peach and almond orchards — Fraga's agricultural heartland — before disappearing into the haze toward the Pyrenean foothills. To the south the flat Ebro depression stretches toward Lleida and Catalonia, a reminder that this hilltop sits right on the historical border between Aragon and the Catalan lands.
Sunrise is spectacular here: the first light catches the bell tower of San Pedro below you before spreading across the river valley. Bring a thermos of coffee and arrive 20 minutes before dawn for the full effect.
