La Marée Restaurant
Sitting steps from Fécamp's working harbour, La Marée has earned its loyal following by doing one thing brilliantly: serving the freshest fish and shellfish the local fleet can provide, cooked with quiet Norman confidence. The plateau de fruits de mer here is the definitive version.
What to Order
The sole meunière — butter-basted, golden-edged and served whole — is the dish locals recommend first. Pair it with a glass of crisp Muscadet sur lie and a side of buttered Fécamp potatoes.
The seafood platter for two arrives on a tiered ice stand loaded with oysters from nearby Saint-Vaast, pink shrimp, whelks, langoustines and half a crab. Budget at least 45 minutes to work through it properly.
The Setting
The dining room is unpretentious — checked tablecloths, nautical prints, the faint smell of the sea drifting in from the harbour — which is exactly right for the food being served.
Book a window table for lunch on a clear day and you can watch the trawlers unloading on the quay while you eat, a pleasingly direct connection between sea and plate.
