Falaise de la Vierge (Cap Fagnet)
At 110 metres above the English Channel, Cap Fagnet is the highest point on the Norman coast between Étretat and Dieppe, and the panorama is simply staggering. Climb or drive to the chapel and radar station at the summit for a view that stretches on clear days to the Cotentin Peninsula.
The Viewpoint Itself
The white chapel Notre-Dame du Salut has watched over Fécamp's fishing fleet since the 17th century; sailors' families would climb here to scan the horizon for returning boats, a ritual that gives the spot genuine emotional weight.
Stand at the cliff edge on a westerly wind and you feel the full force of the Channel — the turquoise water below, the chalk stacks glowing white, and the town's harbour mouth directly beneath you.
Getting There & Timing
A marked footpath from the beach at the northern end of Fécamp's promenade winds up through scrubby grassland in about 25 minutes; the GR21 coastal trail passes right over the cap.
Sunset in summer is extraordinary: the low light turns the chalk cliffs amber and the lighthouse at the harbour entrance begins to blink just as the sky goes pink. Arrive at least 30 minutes before sunset to claim the best spot.
