Cap d'Ail Coastal Path (Sentier du Littoral)
Just below Èze-sur-Mer, the Sentier du Littoral hugs the raw limestone coastline of Cap d'Ail for nearly 3.5 km, threading between secret coves, natural rock pools, and dramatic headlands with Monaco's towers glittering in the distance. It is one of the most beautiful and least-hyped coastal walks on the entire Riviera.
The Walk Itself
The path begins at Plage Marquet in Cap d'Ail and follows the shoreline west, passing the famous 'Plage de la Mala' — a sheltered pebble cove accessible only on foot and considered by many locals to be the most beautiful small beach between Nice and Monaco. The turquoise water here is exceptionally clear, perfect for snorkelling.
The full 3.5 km takes around 90 minutes at a relaxed pace with stops. Some sections require scrambling over rocks, so closed-toe shoes are advisable. The path is partially closed during rough sea conditions (usually November–March) for safety.
Combining with Èze
The walk pairs perfectly with a visit to Èze village: take the train from Nice or Monaco to Èze-sur-Mer station, walk the coastal path to Cap d'Ail, then catch a bus or taxi back to Èze village for lunch. It makes for a full and deeply satisfying day on the Riviera without ever getting in a car.
Plage de la Mala has a small beach restaurant (open May–September) serving grilled fish and cold rosé directly on the pebbles — one of those rare Riviera experiences that still feels genuinely local and unspoiled.
