Val d'Europe & Serris Village
Just one RER stop east of the Disney parks, the planned town of Val d'Europe surprises visitors with a genuine French high street, an enormous shopping centre anchored by a Primark and a Galeries Lafayette, and the charming village core of Serris where locals actually live. It is the perfect half-day escape from Disney prices.
Shopping Without the Mouse Tax
Val d'Europe shopping centre (Centre Commercial Val d'Europe) is one of the largest malls in the Paris region and has a food court and supermarket where you can stock up on French cheese, wine, baguettes and snacks at normal French prices — a revelation after paying €6 for a Mickey pretzel. The Marché de Noël held here each December is one of the region's most atmospheric Christmas markets.
The outlet village La Vallée Village sits adjacent and stocks discounted Longchamp, Sandro, Maje and other French brands at 30–70% off retail. It's open daily and is a favourite with Parisian day-trippers who combine it with a Disney visit.
Serris Village Core
Walk ten minutes south from the RER station and you reach the old village heart of Serris, with a 12th-century church (Église Saint-Gervais-et-Saint-Protais) and a quiet central square where older residents play pétanque on weekend mornings. It is a genuine slice of Seine-et-Marne rural life, utterly untouched by the theme-park bubble.
A handful of family-run restaurants and boulangeries line the village streets, offering prix-fixe lunches for €14–€18 — plat du jour, glass of house wine, café — that blow any Disney restaurant out of the water for authenticity and value.
Practical Logistics
The RER A runs between Marne-la-Vallée–Chessy (Disney) and Val d'Europe stations every 10–15 minutes; the journey is four minutes. You can leave the parks mid-afternoon, spend two hours here, and return for the evening parade without losing a full day.
Val d'Europe is also where most budget hotels cluster — ibis, Kyriad, B&B Hotels — making it a smart base if Disney hotel prices feel steep, with the parks still under 10 minutes away by train.
