Marché de Lagny-sur-Marne
Every Tuesday and Friday morning, the riverside town of Lagny-sur-Marne hosts one of the liveliest traditional markets in the Seine-et-Marne département, drawing local farmers, cheese mongers and charcutiers to the Place de la Fontaine and surrounding streets. It is the most authentic French market experience within easy reach of the Disney resort.
What to Buy
The cheese stalls are exceptional — look for Brie de Meaux AOP sourced directly from farms in the nearby Brie plain, the region that literally gave the world this cheese. Vendors will let you taste before you buy, and a generous wedge costs €4–€6. Pair it with a sourdough miche from the bread stall two rows over.
Seasonal vegetables from Seine-et-Marne market gardeners, rotisserie chickens spinning over dripping trays of potatoes, and a fishmonger with a surprisingly wide Atlantic catch round out the offer. On Friday mornings a flower market sets up alongside, making the whole square photogenic.
The Town Itself
Lagny-sur-Marne is a proper medieval river town with a ruined Benedictine abbey (Abbaye Saint-Pierre de Lagny), a Gothic collegiate church and a pleasant Marne riverside walk. After the market, a 20-minute stroll along the quai reveals boat moorings, weeping willows and a very un-touristy France.
The town has a good selection of brasseries around Place de la Fontaine where you can sit with a café crème and watch market life wind down around noon — locals pulling trolleys, vendors dismantling stalls, the smell of roast chicken still hanging in the air.
Getting There
From Marne-la-Vallée–Chessy, take the RER A one stop west to Noisiel, then a local bus (line 23) to Lagny-sur-Marne, or take a taxi for around €12–€15. Alternatively, the town is a 12-minute drive. Market hours are roughly 07:00–13:00; arrive by 09:00 for the best selection.
This is a genuinely local market — not a tourist market — so bring cash (most vendors don't take cards), a reusable bag and a willingness to queue behind grandmothers who know exactly which tomatoes they want.
