Via XX Settembre — the Porticated Street
Conegliano's elegant main street is one of the best-preserved porticated streets in the Veneto, its 15th-century frescoed arcades sheltering a string of wine bars, pasticcerie and delis that make a leisurely stroll feel like a moveable feast.
Strolling Under the Frescoed Arcades
The continuous loggia that lines both sides of Via XX Settembre dates largely from the 15th and 16th centuries, and many of the facades still carry faded but legible frescoes of coats of arms, allegorical figures and floral motifs.
Locals use the arcades exactly as they were intended — as a sheltered social corridor — so even on a rainy afternoon the street buzzes with espresso drinkers, market shoppers and school children.
Eating and Drinking Along the Strip
Duck into any of the enoteche for a glass of local Prosecco Superiore DOCG paired with a plate of soppressa veneta (a soft, lightly spiced salami) or creamy baccalà mantecato on grilled polenta — the two definitive Venetian cicchetti.
Pasticceria Dal Mas, a historic cafe on the street, is the local institution for morning cornetti and a foamy cappuccino. Grab a table under the arches and watch Conegliano wake up.
