Strada del Prosecco e Vini dei Colli Conegliano Valdobbiadene
Established in 1966, the Strada del Prosecco is Italy's oldest designated wine route, threading 120 kilometres through the UNESCO-listed hillsides between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene. You don't need a car — short, waymarked hiking trails let you walk directly into the vineyard landscape that produces the world's most-sipped sparkling wine.
Walking the Vineyard Trails
From Conegliano's castle hill, a network of signed footpaths descends into the vine rows of the Colli di Conegliano DOC zone. The trail toward the hamlet of Collalbrigo (roughly 5 km one way) passes through working vineyards, past stone farmhouses and under pergolas dripping with Glera grapes in late summer.
The terrain is gentle to moderate — rolling hills rather than mountain climbs — making it accessible for most fitness levels. A pair of trail shoes is enough; hiking boots are overkill for the lower routes.
Tasting at the Source
Dozens of family-run cantine (wine estates) line the route and welcome walk-in visitors for tastings, especially on weekends between April and October. Look for the green Strada del Prosecco sign at the gate — it signals the estate is part of the official network.
A standard tasting of three or four wines — including the bone-dry Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG — typically costs €5–€10 and often includes local salumi and cheese. Cantina Colli del Soligo and Bellenda are two well-regarded estates close to Conegliano.
