Spiaggia di Cetara
Cetara's small beach is not the powder-sand fantasy of a travel brochure — it's a narrow strip of dark pebbles hemmed in by fishing boats and nets, backed by a colourful wall of village houses. That authenticity is exactly its charm: you swim in clear, calm water while wooden luzzelle bob a few metres away and the smell of grilling fish drifts from the trattorias above.
The Beach Experience
The beach divides into a free public section (bring your own mat) and a small lido with sun loungers and umbrellas for hire at around €10–€15 per day. The water is exceptionally clear — the lack of large tourist infrastructure means lower boat traffic and better visibility for snorkelling.
The best snorkelling is around the rocks at the northern end of the beach, where sea urchins, wrasse and octopus shelter in the crevices. Bring your own mask; there's no equipment rental on site.
Eating and Drinking Beachside
Bar Calajanara, just off the beach on the harbour square, serves cold granita di limone and icy Peroni — the perfect post-swim combination. For a proper lunch, Al Convento restaurant (Piazza San Francesco) does a grilled fish of the day using whatever came off the boats that morning.
Avoid the beach between 12:00 and 15:00 in July and August when it becomes very crowded for its size; arrive before 09:30 or after 16:00 for a more relaxed experience.
