Cetara Village Waterfront
Tucked between Vietri sul Mare and Maiori, Cetara is a working fishing village so small and so genuine that most Amalfi Coast tourists speed past it on the bus. That oversight is your gain: a crescent harbour packed with colourful wooden boats, sun-bleached houses stacked like a pastel wedding cake, and zero souvenir tat.
The Harbour & Piazza San Francesco
The focal point of village life is the tiny harbour, where tuna and anchovies are still landed every morning by the same families who fished here generations ago. Wooden luzzelle boats in faded red, blue and yellow bob against the quay while fishermen mend nets in the shade — a scene unchanged for a century.
Piazza San Francesco, just steps from the water, is where locals drink espresso at Bar Calajanara and debate the day's catch. Sit here long enough and you'll feel the authentic rhythm of Campanian coastal life rather than its tourist performance.
The Torre di Cetara
The 16th-century Aragonese watchtower looming above the harbour was built to warn villagers of Saracen raids. It's now the symbol of the town and best photographed from the breakwater at golden hour, when the stone glows amber against the Tyrrhenian Sea.
The tower is not regularly open inside, but its exterior and the lanes surrounding it reward slow wandering — look for hand-painted ceramic house numbers and cats sleeping on ancient steps.
