Milano Marittima Pinewood & Viale Romagna

Immediately north of Cervia, Milano Marittima is Italy's most elegant Adriatic resort neighbourhood — a 1912 garden-city plan of wide, pine-shaded avenues, Liberty-style villas and designer beach clubs that somehow still feels genuinely glamorous rather than kitsch. The defining experience is a slow evening passeggiata along Viale Romagna as the sea breeze filters through the umbrella pines.

The Pinewood Promenade

The Pineta di Milano Marittima — a protected coastal pine forest — runs parallel to the beach for several kilometres. A dedicated cycling and walking path threads through it, connecting Cervia's Darsena all the way north past Savio. Rent a bike from one of the many hire shops on Viale Matteotti for €8–12 a day and the forest becomes your private corridor.

In the early morning the light through the parasol pines is extraordinary — shafts of gold cutting through the resin-scented air — and you'll share the path with joggers, dog walkers and the occasional roe deer.

Beach Clubs & Evening Life

Milano Marittima's stabilimenti balneari (private beach clubs) are a full Italian cultural experience: raked sand, colour-coded umbrellas, attentive service and espresso delivered to your sunlounger. Bagno Nettuno and Bagno Oasis are long-established names with good reputations for food and facilities.

After dark, Viale Romagna turns into a slow-moving open-air salon. Gelato from Gelateria Valentino (Viale Romagna 35), then a Negroni at one of the terrace bars, then a stroll back through the lit-up pines — this is the Adriatic Riviera at its most seductive.
