Echo Beach Sunset Point (Pantai Batu Mejan)
When the sun drops toward the Indian Ocean horizon at Echo Beach, the sky erupts in layers of amber, coral, and violet that mirror perfectly on the water below — and the silhouettes of surfers still in the lineup make the scene feel almost too beautiful to be real.
The Best Spot to Stand
Echo Beach Sunset Point is renowned for its breathtaking coastal views, especially during sunset, with vibrant colours reflecting off the ocean. The concrete steps above the main break — locally called 'the stairs' — are the prime free-of-charge vantage point, used by photographers, couples, and surf-watchers in equal measure.
The rocks exposed at low tide on the left side of the beach add dramatic foreground texture to any photograph, and the unobstructed western exposure means there is nothing between you and the horizon for hundreds of kilometres. Arrive 30 minutes before golden hour to claim a good position.
Sunset Drinks With a View
La Brisa Bali, the boho beach club immediately above the break, is widely considered the finest sunset-drink destination on Echo Beach. Its tiered wooden terraces, lush tropical greenery, and pool overlooking the ocean create an atmosphere that feels like a film set — one that happens to serve excellent cocktails and fresh seafood.
For a more wallet-friendly option, the row of local warungs and beach shacks along the sand rent sunbeds and parasols and sell cold Bintang beer and young coconuts at a fraction of beach-club prices. Both options deliver the same jaw-dropping sky.
After Dark on Echo Beach
Once the sun disappears, Echo Beach does not go quiet. The strip of cafes and restaurants lights up warmly, vendors grill corn on the beach, and the bars transition from sunset sessions into relaxed evening energy. The Lawn Canggu, a stylish oceanfront bar a short walk away, is a favourite for chilled music and lingering dinner.
The neighbourhood around Jalan Pantai Batu Mejan — shiny boutiques standing side by side with lush green rice paddies and local warungs — is worth a slow evening stroll before or after dinner.
