Portofino Regional Natural Park Trails
Camogli sits at the northern gateway to the Parco Naturale Regionale di Portofino, a protected headland of dramatic sea-cliffs, ancient olive groves and coastal forest that remains one of the least spoiled corners of the Italian Riviera. The trail network radiating from town puts world-class hiking within minutes of the harbour.
The trail to San Fruttuoso
The most celebrated walk from Camogli follows trail markers down the wild western flank of the Portofino promontory to the medieval abbey of San Fruttuoso — a 13th-century Doria family monastery sitting in a tiny cove with no road access. The hike takes roughly 2 hours each way on well-marked paths through macchia scrub and pine forest with constant sea views.
San Fruttuoso is also home to the famous Christ of the Abyss statue, submerged 17 metres below the bay's surface — snorkelling or diving to see it is a genuinely unforgettable experience.
Shorter walks and viewpoints
For a gentler outing, the path up to the Batterie viewpoint above Camogli takes just 30 minutes and delivers a stunning bird's-eye view of the town's coloured houses stacked above the harbour.
The trail to Punta Chiappa, a wild rocky promontory 45 minutes from town, is another favourite: the swimming off the flat rocks there is among the clearest in Liguria, and a small seasonal bar sells cold drinks and grilled fish.
