Porto da Barra
On the calmer, western side of the peninsula in Manguinhos, Porto da Barra is where locals go when they want a long, lazy lunch with their feet practically in the sand and a plate of fresh prawns in front of them — without the tourist-strip prices of central Búzios.
A Gastronomic Hub by the Water
Porto da Barra is a cluster of restaurants and bars sitting directly on the beachfront, with tables arranged so that the sea is always in view. The menus celebrate what the Atlantic delivers daily: grilled fish, seafood stews, succulently charred prawns, and cold bottles of Antartica beer that sweat in the afternoon heat.
The setting combines the essence of Búzios' coastal beauty with a relaxed, unhurried atmosphere that makes it easy to turn a lunch into a three-hour affair. It is also one of the best spots on the peninsula to watch the sunset, with the western-facing shore catching the last light beautifully.
What to Order and When to Go
Order the camarão grelhado (grilled prawns) or the moqueca — a Brazilian seafood stew cooked in coconut milk and dendê oil — and pair it with a chopp (draft beer) or a fresh caipifruta. Most restaurants here also do excellent ceviche and fried local fish.
The area is quieter than Rua das Pedras and draws a mix of Carioca weekenders and in-the-know international visitors. Come for sunset happy hour, when the sky turns orange over the water and the whole bay glows.
