Gorai Beach & Gorai Creek Ferry Crossing
Most visitors to Mumbai never make it to Gorai Beach — and that is precisely the point. Reached only by a short creek ferry from Borivali West, this quiet, coconut-palm-fringed stretch of sand feels like a different world from the city, offering the rare pleasure of a Mumbai sunset with sand between your toes and almost no one around.
The beach beyond the creek
Gorai Beach sits on a slender peninsula accessible from the Gorai Jetty in Borivali West via a 10–15 minute ferry ride across Gorai Creek. The crossing itself — mangroves on both sides, fishing boats bobbing past, the distant shimmer of the Arabian Sea ahead — is as memorable as the destination.
The beach is long, relatively clean by Mumbai standards, and backed by casuarina trees and small seafood shacks. It is popular with local families on weekends but remains genuinely uncrowded on weekday mornings. The water can have strong currents, so swimming is best left to calmer patches near the shore.
What else is on the Gorai peninsula
The same ferry landing puts you within easy reach of EsselWorld — one of India's largest amusement parks — and its neighbour Water Kingdom, described as Asia's largest theme water park, with wave pools and water slides. Combine a morning at the beach with an afternoon at Water Kingdom for a full-day outing that costs a fraction of comparable experiences elsewhere.
The Global Vipassana Pagoda is also a short walk or auto-ride from the ferry landing, making the Gorai peninsula one of the most varied half-day escapes in all of Mumbai — ancient spirituality, a golden beach, and a water park, all in one traffic-free trip.
