Prachak Pet Yang (Prachak Roasted Duck)

Since 1909, this no-frills shophouse on Charoen Krung Road has been roasting Cantonese-style duck to a lacquered, amber perfection — and the queue of locals at 3 PM tells you everything you need to know. It is one of Bangrak's most beloved institutions and a Michelin Guide-recommended bite that costs almost nothing.

Over a Century of Roasted Duck

Founded in 1909, Prachak is a legendary Thai-Chinese restaurant on Charoen Krung Road — Bangkok's very first paved road — and has been serving its signature Cantonese-style roast duck for more than a century.

The duck is slow-roasted until the skin crisps to a deep mahogany glaze. Order it over rice, over egg noodles, or go all-in with the mixed platter of roasted duck, moo daeng (red pork) and moo krob (crispy pork).

What to Order

The phed-daeng-krob — egg noodles topped with roasted duck, red pork and crispy pork — is the dish regulars swear by. Add a bowl of clear broth on the side and a cold Singha to complete the meal.

Prices are absurdly reasonable: a full duck-and-noodle lunch with drinks rarely tops THB 200 per person, making this one of Bangkok's great culinary bargains.

Practical Tips

The restaurant is cash only and operates on a first-come, first-served basis — no reservations. Arrive before noon or after 2 PM to avoid the longest queues.

It sits opposite Robinson's department store on Charoen Krung Road, a 5-minute walk from BTS Saphan Taksin.
