Amano, Britomart

Tucked inside one of Britomart's beautifully restored heritage buildings, Amano has become the benchmark for relaxed, produce-driven dining in central Auckland — the kind of place that works equally well for a morning pastry, a long lunch with wine, or a proper dinner.

The Food & the Space

The menu leans Italian in spirit — burrata, house-made pasta, wood-fired dishes — but the ingredients are resolutely New Zealand: seasonal produce sourced locally and treated with restraint rather than fuss. Simple things done exceptionally well is the consistent refrain from regulars.

The ground-floor bakery is a destination in its own right, stacked with sourdough loaves, laminated pastries and sweet treats that disappear fast on weekend mornings. Grab a flat white and a croissant and eat at one of the pavement tables on Commerce Street.

The Britomart Neighbourhood

Amano sits at the heart of Britomart, the nine-block waterfront precinct that is arguably Auckland's most walkable dining neighbourhood. Refurbished heritage warehouses house award-winning restaurants, cool bars and boutique shops within a few minutes' stroll of the ferry terminal and the train station.

After dinner, the precinct is lively rather than rowdy — perfect for a post-meal wander down to the Viaduct Harbour to watch the superyachts come and go under the lights.
