Balloon flights drift above the full West Bank archaeological zone, sweeping over the Valley of the Kings, the colonnaded terraces of Hatshepsut's Temple at Deir el-Bahari, and the twin giants of the Colossi of Memnon rising from green crop fields far below.
Turning east, the Nile glitters like hammered copper as the sun clears the Eastern Desert, and the towers of Karnak Temple emerge on the far bank — the whole of ancient Thebes laid out in a single, impossible panorama.
The Launch Experience
Most operators collect guests from East Bank hotels before dawn, ferry them across the Nile by motorboat, and drive to launch sites in the fields near the Al-Qurna district, just north of Al-Bayadiyya — the whole transfer is part of the adventure.
Flights last approximately 45 minutes and are wind-dependent, meaning no two routes are identical; your pilot reads the morning air currents and the balloon finds its own path over the monuments.
