Praia Beach
Praia Beach sits at the foot of Praiano where two rock ridges pinch the coastline into a narrow cove, leaving only a few hours of direct sunlight each day. That fact alone tells you what kind of place this is: the cliffs decide when you swim, not you.
The beach marks the boundary between Praiano and Furore, and it carries the traces of everything this stretch of coast once was — a working landing place, a timber-loading dock, a fishing anchorage. Those layers are still legible if you look: a medieval tower on the right, a small church rebuilt after a 1924 flood, and, after dark, fishermen pushing out in small boats to catch totani by lamplight.

People who return tend to time their arrival for midday, when the sun finally clears the cliffs, then stay into the evening. The path cut into the rock face leading to Africana is worth following even if you skip the club itself — and Alfonso a Mare is the name that comes up most when anyone talks about eating on the water here.
The story behind Praia Beach
Marina di Praia was the original core of ancient Plagiunum — the only place along this section of coast where boats could land. For centuries the cove was a working yard: nets were mended here, fish was cured, and boats were built. One of its more specific trades involved loading timber brought down from Agerola by aerial ropeway, then shipping it across to the shores of North Africa.
By 1500, a tower known as the Torre a Mare had been raised at the water's edge, along with a dockyard called the Scarricaturo — physical evidence of how seriously the village took its maritime commerce. The small Church of the Santissima Annunziata, which stands at the beach today, was destroyed in the flood of 1924 and rebuilt through community donations. The Africana nightclub, carved directly into the rock above the cove, drew a different kind of visitor in the twentieth century — Jackie Kennedy among them, during her 1962 holiday on the coast.

The SITA bus on the Positano–Amalfi line stops at Praiano center; a ticket costs around €3.50. There is no ferry landing. The cove gets direct sun only in the central hours of the day, so an early morning visit means shade. A half-day is the natural rhythm.
Summer days reach around 28°C with sea temperatures peaking at 26°C in August and rain almost absent — June through August is when the beach is at full activity. The water stays swimmable into early autumn; winter brings cooler air (down to around 9°C in January) and November is the wettest month by some distance.

Marina di Praia is absolutely magical. I loved that there are two sections to enjoy. The main beach is a pebble beach (definitely bring water shoes, I needed them), and the water is calm, stunning, and so comfortable. You’re nestled between two towering cliffs, and it feels like you’re in a secret, special place. The second section is just along the path by the boat tours, you can drop your things by the path and dive straight into the sea. Surrounded by boats, it honestly feels like you’re living in a movie. This spot has such a unique magic to it, I’ll never forget it.
We both enjoyed this cute little bay more than anything during our self-driven Amalfi Coast day trip. Bus tours don't seem to stop here, so it is mostly people who drive themselves, and therefore it is not overcrowded at all. It is truly magical, and you can even rent your own boat here. Would be nice to try next time!
Very beautiful beach situated in the cliffs, the best beach in the area. Also has nice restaurants, restrooms and bed rental available. Beds were around 70euro but have a spot for laying a towel down, but you'll need to get there early-ish to grab a spot.
Definitely check out this beach if you’re trying to enjoy the water on the amalfi coast. There’s a free and paid section. The free side has the sun in the morning, so this would be better as an afternoon/ late morning spot. The market nearby is pricey, so highly recommended bringing your own lunch & drinks.
This place is a (secret?) treasure! There’s a tiny hotel I would’ve stayed in in a heartbeat had I known about it. There’s a little beach not Sandy, but enchanting! A tiny marina with two competing places to rent a motor boat!!! It was definitely the best day of our three week honeymoon! Regardless of all the five star restaurant dinners and all the five star hotels we stayed in, this week little gift from the heavens, made our time there exactly what we had dreamed about.
