Marché de Vincennes (Place du Maréchal de Lattre de Tassigny)
Every Tuesday, Friday and Sunday morning, the wide square at the heart of Vincennes transforms into one of the most lively and genuinely local outdoor markets in the Paris region. Locals queue for raw-milk cheeses, heirloom tomatoes, rotisserie chickens and freshly shucked oysters — this is everyday French market culture at its most authentic.
What to Buy and When to Come
Sunday is the biggest day, when over 80 stalls spread across the square and spill into the surrounding streets. Arrive before 10 a.m. to beat the crowds and catch the best selection of seasonal produce, from white asparagus in spring to blood oranges in January.
The charcuterie stalls are particularly outstanding — look for the vendor selling house-cured jambon de Paris and terrines made on-site. Pair a slice with a wedge of aged Comté from the fromagerie opposite for an instant picnic.
Beyond the Produce
The Sunday market also includes a small brocante section where you can hunt for vintage French enamelware, old postcards and second-hand books — a low-key treasure hunt that rewards early risers.
After shopping, the café terraces around the square fill up with locals nursing espressos and dissecting their hauls. Pull up a chair at Café de la Mairie for a classic croque-monsieur and watch the market wind down — pure Île-de-France Sunday ritual.
