The Cave de Turckheim cooperative was founded in 1955 and today unites over 180 growers farming some of Alsace's most prestigious parcels, including a significant share of the Brand Grand Cru. What to Taste
The Brand Grand Cru Riesling is the flagship and the reason to make a special trip — steely, mineral and built for ageing, it tastes nothing like the flabby commercial Rieslings sold in supermarkets. Ask for a comparison tasting between the Riesling and the Gewurztraminer from the same Grand Cru parcel to understand how dramatically the same granite soil expresses different grape varieties.
The cooperative also produces a very good Crémant d'Alsace sparkling wine that is consistently underpriced relative to its quality — a bottle makes an excellent picnic companion for the vineyard viewpoint walk above town.
Buying & Visiting
The shop sells direct at cellar-door prices, which are noticeably lower than the same bottles in Colmar or Strasbourg wine merchants. Cases can be shipped within France and to most EU countries; staff will pack bottles securely for travellers taking them home by car.
The tasting room itself is modern and unintimidating — no appointment needed for individuals or small groups. Larger groups (10+) should book ahead for a guided cellar tour that includes barrel-ageing rooms and a tutored tasting of six wines.
