Paseo Fluvial & Miño Riverside Promenade
Tui's riverside walkway stretches along the Spanish bank of the Miño with uninterrupted views of Valença's massive star-shaped fortress directly across the water. It is one of the most dramatic border panoramas in all of Europe, and it costs nothing to enjoy.
Walking the Miño
The Paseo Fluvial runs for roughly two kilometres from the old iron railway bridge southward, lined with weeping willows, benches and small beaches where kayakers launch in summer.
At sunset the fortress walls of Valença turn amber and the twin bridges — the 1884 Eiffel-designed iron rail bridge and the modern road bridge — frame the scene perfectly. Locals jog here at dusk; bring a camera and arrive an hour before sunset.
The International Iron Bridge
The Ponte Internacional, designed by a student of Gustave Eiffel and opened in 1886, is a pedestrian and rail crossing you can walk across freely. The views from its mid-point, directly above the fast-flowing Miño, are vertiginous and spectacular.
Crossing takes about ten minutes and drops you inside the walls of Valença do Minho, where Portuguese linen, ceramics and wine fill the fortified village's shops — a satisfying half-day extension to any Tui visit.
