A runway town's proud heritage
The base dates to the 1950s and shaped the entire urban fabric of Torrejón, drawing workers, families and American personnel who left a cultural imprint still visible in the town's wide avenues and mid-century architecture.
Look for the static display of aircraft near the access road on Avenida de la Base — a Lockheed F-104 Starfighter and a CASA 212 transport are among the pieces that regularly draw photographers and enthusiasts.
Planning your visit
The exterior display is freely visible from public roads, but access to the full Museo del Aire is at Cuatro Vientos airfield in Madrid; Torrejón's annex works best as a drive-by or cycling detour on the dedicated bike path that runs alongside the perimeter.
