Gorges de la Diosaz
Just below the village, the Gorges de la Diosaz carve a dramatic slot through limestone cliffs, with a series of suspended walkways and bridges that bring you nose-to-nose with waterfalls crashing into turquoise pools. It is one of the most accessible yet genuinely spectacular natural spectacles in the entire Mont Blanc massif.
Walking the Suspended Bridges
A waymarked trail of roughly 1.5 km threads through the gorge on metal walkways bolted directly to the rock face, passing seven waterfalls and a natural arch carved by millennia of snowmelt. The roar of the Diosaz river fills the canyon and the air is noticeably cooler than the valley floor, making it a perfect escape on a hot July afternoon.
The deepest section, known as the Grand Chaudron, plunges around 80 metres and the spray keeps the walls permanently mossy and glistening. Children love the drama of the swaying bridges, and the path is well-maintained enough for confident walkers of all ages.
Timing Your Visit
The gorge is typically open from mid-May to late September, and early morning visits reward you with golden light filtering through the slot and far fewer crowds than midday. Wear grippy shoes — the planks can be slippery from constant mist — and bring a light waterproof layer even in summer.
Combining the gorge with a picnic on the meadows above Servoz village makes for a full half-day outing without needing a car, since the gorge entrance is a short walk from the Servoz train station on the Mont Blanc Express line.
