Terrazza dello Spartivento, Scala
Perched at roughly 350 metres above sea level, this natural limestone belvedere on the ridge above Scala delivers a panorama that stretches from Capo d'Orso all the way to the island of Capri on clear days. Almost no tour buses find it, which means you get the whole glittering Tyrrhenian arc almost entirely to yourself.
The View Itself
Stand at the low stone wall and you can trace the entire curve of the Amalfi Coast below — terracotta rooftops of Ravello to your left, the fishing harbour of Minori to your right, and the deep cobalt sea filling every gap in between.
The light is most theatrical in the late afternoon, when the sun drops behind the Lattari mountains and paints the limestone cliffs in shades of amber and rose. Bring a wide-angle lens if you shoot with a camera.
Getting There
From Scala's main square, Piazza Municipio, follow the signed mule track called the Sentiero dei Limoni northward for about 25 minutes. The path is well-maintained but includes uneven stone steps, so wear proper walking shoes.
There is no café or vendor at the belvedere, so pack water and a snack. The reward at the top — complete silence broken only by swifts — makes the climb feel almost ceremonial.
