Sentiero dei Limoni (Scala–Minori Lemon Trail)
This 4-kilometre mule-track linking Scala with the seafront town of Minori descends through working lemon terraces so dense that the canopy of lemon leaves and cane-and-net pergolas turns the midday sun a luminous yellow-green. It is arguably the most sensory walk on the entire Amalfi Coast — the air smells of citrus blossom from March through June.
The Trail Experience
The path begins at Scala's Piazza Municipio and drops steeply via ancient stone steps — some worn smooth over centuries of use by farmers carrying baskets of sfusato amalfitano lemons down to the harbour markets. You pass through privately tended groves where the fruit hangs at arm's reach; picking is not permitted, but the farmers rarely mind if you pause to inhale.
Midway down, the trail opens onto a small stone platform with a direct view of Minori's beach and the sea beyond — one of those spontaneous vistas that make you stop walking entirely for a few minutes.
Practical Notes
The descent from Scala to Minori takes roughly 50–70 minutes at a leisurely pace; the ascent back is considerably more demanding (about 90 minutes). Most walkers take the trail one-way and return to Scala by SITA Sud bus from Minori, which runs roughly every 30–40 minutes.
Wear grippy-soled shoes — the stone steps are polished and can be slippery after rain. Carry at least one litre of water per person; there are no refreshment stops on the trail itself.
